When Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline accepted the head coaching position at South Florida, one of his first goals was to hit the Transfer Portal hard. He also had to round out his coaching staff. Being an offensive coach, you knew that he was going to hit that side of the ball hard in the portal.
First, Hartline hired former Virginia Tech running backs coach Elijah Brooks to the same position with the Bulls. He did a tremendous job in Blacksburg with the Hokies running back and moved Bhayshul Tuten onto the NFL in last April's draft. It was a little surprising he wasn't retained by James Franklin at Virginia Tech, but he bolted for Tampa, Florida. He'll be joined by one Hokies transfer.
Virginia Tech transfer Cam Seldon commits to South Florida
When Cam Seldon hit the portal last winter after two years at Tennessee, he did so as a running back. Former coach Brent Pry turned the 6-foot-1 speedster into a wide receiver. He finished the season with 23 catches for 165 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Kyron Drones in 2025. After one season with the Hokies and a coaching change, Seldon went back into the Transfer Portal and committed to South Florida on Tuesday.
Before Virginia Tech, Seldon rushed for 224 yards in his two years with Tennessee. A Top 80 recruit coming out of high school, Seldon was seldom used in Knoxsville and hit the portal. It will be interesting to see what Hartline has in the works for Seldon at South Florida. Will he use him as a wide receiver, or will he transition him back to a running back with Brooks?
Regardless of what the staff chooses, they are getting a player who is a playmaker with the ball in his hands and expect it to be there a lot in 2026.
