When the Virginia Tech football team landed Tennessee transfer Cameron Seldon out of the portal last winter, it was a rather interesting commitment. In Tennessee, he was primarily a running back, but former head coach Brent Pry has visions of turning him into a wide receiver under Fontel Mines.

After one season in Blacksburg, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports confirmed that Seldon is going to enter the Transfer Portal next week when it officially opens on Jan. 2.

Virginia Tech WR Cam Seldon to enter the Transfer Portal

The 6-foot-1, 211-pound Virginia native played in 11 games for the Hokies this season and had 23 receptions for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was second on Virginia Tech with receptions this season behind Ayden Greene.

His best game was in late September when he had five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in a 23-21 upset of North Carolina State on the road. He had a touchdown on Nov. 1 in a 28-16 loss at home to Louisville. He also rushed the ball seven times for 28 yards, with his longest run coming in the regular season finale against Virginia in a 27-7 loss.

Seldon showed some promise in spring ball, but was never able to become a big contributor to the Virginia Tech offense in 2025 under Philip Montgomery. He was the No. 1-ranked player in the Commonwealth coming out of high school, according to 247Sports, and is a very good athlete.

Seldon has one year of eligibility remaining, and what position he ends up playing at his next stop will be interesting. Do teams see him as a running back or a wide receiver? He is such a good athlete that he could do either. There should be no shortage of suitors for him once the portal opens.
