Riding a 13-game winning streak, the Virginia Tech softball team returned home to Tech Softball Park on Tuesday night to host Charlotte in a non-conference mid-week contest. The 12th-ranked Hokies were looking to continue the momentum they built from a weekend sweep at North Carolina State.
Virginia Tech was able to beat the 49ers behind the combination pitching of Emma Mazzarone and Emma Lemley, but the story of the game was on the offensive side of things and a new school record that was set in the win.
Bre Peck sets school home run record with a pair of homers in win over Charlotte
Going into the game, Bre Peck was one home run away from tying the program record for homers at 50. It took her just two at-bats in the game. In the bottom of the second, she tied the record with a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. Two innings later, her second solo homer gave her the school record and Virginia Tech a 3-1 lead. She added a third homer in the bottom of the sixth, which set the record for most RBIs in program history with 171.

Trinity Martin also drove in a run for the Hokie with an RBI single in the second inning after Peck's first home run of the game. Peck finished with 3 RBIs. Zoe Yaeger ended the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-3 final.
In the circle, Mazzarone went 4.2 innings, scattering three hits, allowing three runs, walking three, and striking out four. Lemley worked the final 1.1 innings, walking one and striking out two.
Virginia Tech (33-5) will take its 11-1 ACC record into a three-game weekend series at home against Notre Dame beginning on Friday afternoon.
