Like the baseball team, the Virginia Tech softball team will begin ACC play for the 2025 season this weekend in Blacksburg. The Hokies baseball team will host Georgia Tech while the softball team begins conference play with the Commonwealth Clash against Virginia.

It’s also a Top 25 matchup between the Hokies and Cavaliers, something that was not on a lot of bingo cards when the season began. This is an interesting early-season matchup for two teams with NCAA Tournament aspirations. For the Hokies, they have aspirations of at least a Top 16 seed to be a Regional host in May.

How to watch Virginia at Virginia Tech softball

Virginia Tech comes into the weekend at 17-4 and ranked 18th by ESPN, while Virginia comes in ranked 23rd. The Cavaliers are the hotter of the two teams riding a 12-game winning streak to Blacksburg. The Hokies have not played since the Hokie Invite last weekend in Salem where they won four out of five games.

Early in the season, Virginia Tech pitcher Emma Lemley had been very good in the circle with a pair of perfect games and a no-hitter over Liberty in a Top 25 matchup at the time. Her second perfect game earlier this season was over a Top 25 team in Northwestern.

Virginia Tech dropped two games against LSU three weeks ago, but rebounded to split a pair of games with Alabama at the Bama Bash a week later. Aside from Lemley having a strong start of the season in the circle, the Hokies bats have been booming with the long ball.

In their 9-0 victory over Liberty, they began the game with three consecutive home runs against the Flames, which proved to be more than enough for Lemley in the circle. This weekend’s series is a big one against an in-state rival who is on a roll coming into Blacksburg,

  • Game 1: Friday, 6 p.m.
  • Game 2: Saturday, 2 p.m.
  • Game 3: Sunday, 12 p.m.

All three games can be watched on ACC Network Extra.
