Entering the ACC Tournament in Charlottesville, the Virginia Tech softball team was the third seed. After avoiding playing on the first day, the third-seeded Hokies took down sixth-seeded Virginia, 3-1, in the quarterfinals before shutting out Duke, 5-0, in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.

That placed Virginia Tech in the ACC. Championship Game against top-seeded Florida State on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies were looking to not only win their first ACC Tournament championship since 2008, but they were also looking to slide into a Top 16-seed for next weekend's NCAA Tournament in Blacksburg.

After grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Seminoles scored the two runs they would need in the bottom of the second to secure another ACC Tournament championship with a 2-1 win over Virginia Tech for their 20th ACC Tournament title.

Virginia Tech will again have to sweat out Selection Sunday to find out seeding

There is no doubt that the Hokies are going to the NCAA Tournament. It's just a matter of whether or not they'll be in Blacksburg or they'll have to hit the road once again after missing a Top 16 seed. Last season, they missed out and were stuck going to Alabama for the Regional on the opening weekend.

Virginia Tech had its chance at the top of the sixth with the bases loaded, but Jazzy Francik, who got Rachel Castine to line out to shortstop to end the frame.

Virginia Tech finished the regular season and ACC Tournament, winning eight of their last nine games, but had a hiccup a couple of weekends ago by losing two out of three to Georgia Tech at home before dropping a non-conference game at home to Liberty. If they end up on the road next weekend rather than playing in Blacksburg as a Top 16 seed, that will be the reason why.
