After dropping two out of three games two weeks at Duke to begin ACC play, the 12th-ranked Virginia Tech softball team has quickly turned things around in conference play. Last weekend, they swept North Carolina State at home, and they enjoyed the week off with no non-conference games before heading to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a three-game weekend series against Boston College.

Virginia Tech swept a doubleheader on Friday against the Eagles and had Saturday's game postponed due to cold temperatures in the Northeast. The third and final game of the weekend was pushed to Sunday, and the Hokies completed the weekend sweep with a 17-3 rout of a rebuilding Boston College program.

Virginia Tech softball dominates BC during weekend sweep

Domination doesn't begin to describe what the Hokies did in Boston over the weekend. It was a masterclass in spreading around the offense from up and down the lineup by Pete D'Amour's team. For the weekend, they outscored the Eagles, 42-7, in the three games. They won Game 1 on Friday, 11-0, in five innings before rolling to a 14-4 win in the nightcap in six innings. Sunday's 14-3 run domination lasted just six innings. Tech scored at least one run in five of the six innings.

As usual, the home run ball was key for Virginia Tech. They got a two-run home run and a three-run home run from Nora Abromavage, and Michelle Chatifeld added a solo shot. In the sixth inning, Kylie Aldridge added a two-run shot to center field. The Hokies pounded out 14 hits and combined for 13 RBIs against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

There will be no mid-week non-conference game this week for Virginia Tech. They will host Clemson in a key ACC series beginning Thursday night in Blacksburg. The series will conclude on Saturday night, and they will have Easter Sunday off. The Hokies are 31-4 overall and 7-2 in ACC play.
