When it comes to the NCAA softball tournament, one of the biggest questions over the last couple of weeks was who was going to be the final couple of hosts for the first weekend.
One school that was in the mix was Virginia Tech. The Hokies entered the ACC Tournament on Thursday with an opportunity to make the case to host. They took down Virginia in the quarterfinals before upsetting Duke in the semifinals, setting up a shot at top-seeded Florida State in the ACC Championship Game. A win there and the Hokies would be hosting next weekend in Blacksburg.
The Seminoles allowed a first-inning run, but it was the only run that the FSU pitching staff would allow in what was a 2-1 victory. Instead of leaving Charlottesville, almost certainly knowing that the Hokies were going to host, it quickly turned into doubt. That doubt was put to rest on Sunday night.
Virginia Tech softball hosed in NCAA Tournament seeding
When the dust settled, the Hokies drew the second-seed in the LSU Regional and will travel to Baton Rouge as the Tigers earned the final host seed, a No. 16. This is a bitter pill for a second year for Virginia Tech to swallow on Selection Sunday, as they fell short last year of hosting a regional and had to go to Alabama.

Virginia Tech (46-10) will open the tournament on Friday at 4:30 against South Alabama (32-25) while host LSU (37-17) opening with Akron (34-23) at 6:30. The Hokies had a chance to cemenet the final regional host with a win over Florida State on Saturday, but you have to think that the slip up Virginia Tech had a couple of weeks ago, losing two out of three at home to Georgia Tech, then a tough 11-10 non-conference setback at home to Liberty didn't help their cause.
