Looking for a job? If you’re a Virginia Tech fan, then the football program might have just the job for you. Posted on the Virginia Tech Football X account, they are hiring for a Director of Social Media, but the job posting is drawing a lot of backlash.
Whether it’s college or professional sports, all schools and teams have a social media department that creates cute little graphs, trolls other accounts, and puts up game highlights. In this case, the job description itself is getting roasted and is the latest punch line for a program that is struggling to get back to relevance.

As is the case with any job, the job description was posted for the position, and the requirements are what you thought they would be, or for most jobs. A Bachelor’s degree is required with experience working in collegiate athletics or a similar field. Easy enough, right? Scroll down a little more, and you’ll get to the salary information, and that’s where things get eye-opening. The salary ranges from $44,000 to $50,000, commensurate with experience. Fans commented on the posting and the salary on social media.

Director for $40K is an insulting offer👎

There is no doubt that fans don't agree with the salary offered, and in the overall big picture, it's hard to imagine someone going through college and putting all the work and effort they do to earn a bachelors or even a master's degree and be offered that amount of money.

It's safe to say that the program and school struggle to get out of their own way at times, and it doesn't take much for fans to troll them.
