Recruiting had been booming for Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin and his staff. That was, however, before a weekend of tough results in terms of commitments.

Three Virginia Tech Class of 2027 targets committed on Saturday and Sunday, and they all committed elsewhere. There appeared to be some commitment coming Virginia Tech's way; however, Josh Heupel swooped in and plucked four-star offensive lineman Q'Mari Hudson from Virginia. That was a tough last-second blow for the Hokies.

Currently, Virginia Tech has 24 commitments in the Class of 2027, and its ranking continues to hover around the Top 10 at 247Sports. When Franklin was hired, you just knew it would only be a matter of time before recruiting took off in Blacksburg.

It was a quiet weekend in terms of the number of visitors this past weekend, which is not uncommon during this recruiting period, but things will pick up this upcoming weekend. While the Hokies prepare for that, there is another Class of 2027 recruit who is going to make his decision this week.

Virginia Tech in the mix for 2027 safety Knyair Crumb

Three-star Class of 2027 safety Knyair Crumb, from Hyattsville, Maryland, and he plays at powerhouse DeMatha Catholic, is down to four schools: Virginia Tech, Auburn, Syracuse, and Penn State. Now, according to 247Sports, the Crystal Ball predictions that have been logged have been for Auburn, but Crumb is scheduled to announce his commitment on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

It is going to be interesting to see how things end up playing out with this announcement. All signs are pointing to Auburn, but anything is possible. He visited Auburn the last weekend in May before making the trip to Blacksburg the first weekend in June. He is scheduled to visit Syracuse this upcoming weekend; however, he's announcing his decision on Wednesday night. Kind of bizarre. He did not take an official visit to State College, but did make an unofficial one in late March.

Virginia Tech has some commitments in the secondary in the Class of 2027, so it remains to be seen how much of a push Franklin and his staff made for Crumb. During his time at Penn State, Franklin was able to recruit the Maryland area very well, and if they come out of nowhere to pluck Crumb, well, that would be sending a recruiting statement. We'll find out soon enough on Wednesday night.
