It's hard to believe, but we are halfway through the month of June and the recruiting visits for the Class of 2027 are about to begin to slow down over the next couple of weeks. However, that doesn't mean that the commitments won't happen as Virginia Tech and first-year head coach James Franklin still have some big names still undecided.
Right now, the Hokies have two dozen commits in the class and that number will rise before all is said and done. There are a couple of areas that could some additions in the Class of 2027, including at linebacker where things have been quiet under Brent Pry as the position coach and defensive coordinator.
On Sunday, three-star edge Jaxon Holly from Georgia announced his commitment and he picked Florida State over Virginia Tech and Auburn. He visited Virginia Tech recently, but in the end, he chose Mike Novell and the Seminoles. Things could get interesting if Norvell doesn't make to signing day in December.
Virginia Tech suffers another recruiting loss this weekend
After going on a serious heater the last six weeks, it was a lost weekend for Franklin and Virginia Tech in terms of commitments. On Saturday, they lost a pair of commits decision to Tennessee, which swooped in late and plucked four-star offensive lineman Q'Mari Hudson from Virginia. The Hokies were the leader for him, but the Vols swooped in late and secured his commitment. That was after Georgia Tech and Brent Key picked up a commitment from three-star linebacker Noah Renes from Florida.
This will be seen as a big loss, but truth be told, the Hokies will move on. There is some momentum being built for Virginia Tech to flip a three-star Notre Dame commit in the Class of 2027 at linebacker. Again, as mentioned above, it is a position if need in the class and would be a good get for the Hokies if Amarri Irvin does flip his commitment from South Bend to Blacksburg.
