Four weeks of the college football season are in the books, and the Virginia Tech football team is 4-0 after wins over VMI, Old Dominion at home, and road wins over Maryland and Boston College. They don't ask how; they just ask if.
This week, the Hokies have a Friday night home game at Lane Stadium against 4-0 Pittsburgh in an early-season ACC showdown. With eight games remaining in the regular season, there are some interesting matchups. Let's ranked Virginia Tech's remaining schedule from managable to terrifying game on the schedule.
Ranking Virginia Tech's remaining football schedule from manageable to terrifying
Stanford will visit Blacksburg in mid-November, and if things go the way many think between now and then, the Cardinal could be coming to Lane Stadium with nothing to play for except playing out the string and not being able to become bowl-eligible. Tavita Pritchard has a rebuild in front of him under his good friend Andrew Luck, and they will get there. Just not in 2026.
Life after Buster Faulkner and Haynes King has been a struggle for head coach Brent Key. The Yellow Jackets are 1-3 after a loss at Stanford last Saturday night and don't look anything like they did in 2025. Another team that is visiting Blacksburg, Georgia Tech will improve, but will they improve enough to become bowl-eligible? The only concern for the Hokies is that this game is a week after the next game on this list in a couple of weeks, after a trip out West.
This game is a complete toss-up. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Hokies go to Cal and beat the Golden Bears, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them go out to Berkeley and win. Quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is one of the top signal callers in the conference as a sophomore and likely remembers last season's overtime loss to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
Dabo Swinney is on the hot seat, but he picked up a big win over Cal last Friday night, and the Tigers host Miami this upcoming Saturday night. Clemson has looked good at times early in the season and then not so good at other points. If they can get consistent play at quarterback, then they will be a tough out at home later this month when the Hokies visit.
SMU was seen as the second-best team in the ACC behind Miami when the season began, but a road loss at Louisville followed by a 10-point win over Missouri State at home has raised some eyebrows. QB Kevin Jennings is still one of the better signal callers in the conference, but there is no more room for error for the Mustangs in 2026. Narrowly escaping Florida State in Week 1 caught some by surprise, but is the defense good enough to get Rhett Lashley where he wants to go?
Virginia has one hiccup, and that was against West Virginia a couple of weeks ago in Charlotte. The Cavaliers have an impressive win over NC State to begin the season, but is Beau Pribula the answer at QB for Tony Elliott and UVA? The game this season will be in Blacksburg and one of the more anticipated Commonwealth Cup clashes in some time. Hopefully both teams are healthy, as this could be a classic.
Pitt quarterback Mason Heintschel has put up some impressive stats to begin the season, and this will be the Panthers' first road game of the season on Friday night at Lane Stadium. A matchup between 4-0 teams this late in the season, with neither ranked, is rather interesting. It might be safe to say that the winner of this game will likely be ranked next week.
Who knows where Virginia Tech will be when this matchup pops up on the schedule the weekend before Thanksgiving, but barring a surprising conference loss, the Hurricanes should be undefeated in ACC play and looking to potentially lock up a berth in the ACC Championship Game. This is by far the toughest remaining game, and I know we're not breaking any news here.
