When James Franklin was hired at Virginia Tech, one thing that fans knew would eventually change was the way the Hokies recruited. To say that it was a struggle under former coaches Justin Fuente and Brent Pry would be an understatement. Virginia Tech fell behind just about everywhere, but more importantly, in Virginia.
Pry knew that relationships had to be mended when he was hired, and he tried his best to do it. He made more of an effort to try to keep some of the top talent in the Commonwealth. Franklin is about to begin his first season in Blacksburg in less than two months, but he has wrapped up a very good first full recruiting class with the Class of 2027, his first one since he landed boots on the ground at Virginia Tech. It's been so good that he has the Hokies on a list that fans only dreamed of being on in the last decade.
James Franklin continues to take Virginia Tech places uin recruiting that fans were dreaming of
Virginia Tech has 26 commits in the Class of 2027 who have given their verbal commitment to Franklin. Of course, things can change before signing day in December, and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or two flip. That could also happen in Virginia Tech's favor. However, the Hokies cracked Rivals' list of the top commits in the rising senior class.
To nobody's surprise, Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal led the way with seven of the 10 players on the list. Popping up on the list was four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, who committed to Virginia Tech on May 14 after a recruiting process that took almost five months since he de-committed from Michigan in December.

The two other commits belong to Clemson and California. Make no mistake about it, Cristobal has things rolling in South Florida, and nobody in the ACC, not even Dabo Swinney at Clemson, is going to out-recruit him. However, Virginia Tech fans are used to looking at these posts on social media, not seeing the Hokies' logo on them. That is slowly going to change under Franklin.
Bourque was someone who was on Franklin's and the quarterbacks coach, Danny O'Brien's, radar when they were at Penn State before he committed to Michigan. It only made sense that they would get back in the mix for him after he de-committed and they ended up beating out Kirby Smart and Georgia, along with Matt Campbell and Penn State. This is just the beginning when it comes to recruiting for Franklin in Blacksburg.
