We are just a couple of weeks away from the college basketball season beginning, and just one week ago, the ACC tip-off was held in Charlotte, North Carolina. This season, women's head coach Megan Duffy brought guard Carleigh Wenzel with her, as well as Tennessee transfer Alyssa Latham.

However, on Tuesday, the ACC released the Preseason All-ACC Team as well as the predicted order of finish and Wenzel picked up some bulletin board material.

Wenzel was not named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, which is a bit of a surprise despite the conference being as loaded with good teams and players as it is. Truth be told, that is the ultimate bulletin board material for the graduate student from Texas.

As far as the predicted order of finish goes, the Hokies were picked to finish eighth. Duke is the preseason favorite, followed by Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Virginia, and Syracuse.

Over the last two seasons, Wenzel has been Duffy's go-to player, and she decided to stick around for another season despite Carys Baker leaving in the Transfer Portal for Louisville, and guard Mackenzie Nelson leaving in the portal as well for Clemson. Those are two big losses for the Hokies.

However, Duffy added Latham and fellow Tennessee transfer Lauren Hurst, as well as some good incoming freshmen. Guard Katie Sears missed all of last season with an injury, but she's expected to be a major player for Virginia Tech this season.

Virginia Tech is looking for a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance under Duffy after being the first team left out in her first season of 2024-25, after replacing Kenny Brooks, who departed for Kentucky. Virginia Tech opens the season on Nov. 2 at Cassell Coliseum with a non-conference game against North Carolina Central.
