One huge question facing the Virginia Tech football team entering the 2025 season is who is going to replace the carries at running back after Bhayshul Tuten is off to the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars? The Hokies return P.J. Prioleau, who saw his 2024 season cut short with an injury, and Jeremiah Coney.
Also leaving Blacksburg after last season was Malachi Thomas, who hit the Transfer Portal and landed at Purdue. That left Pry and his staff scrambling for replacements, which included incoming freshman Jeffrey Overton, whom the staff is very high on. Virginia Tech added some players through the portal, and it is setting up for an interesting battle in camp to see who ends up getting a lot of the carries. However, one transfer was named to a prestigious watch list and is the leading candidate to get some key carries in 2025 for the Hokies.
Virginia Tech RB Terion Stewart named to Doak Walker Award Watch List
Virginia Tech picked a commitment over the winter from Bowling Green transfer Terion Stewart, and he was one of 17 ACC running backs named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List.

Last season for the Falcons, Stewart rushed for 898 yards on 166 carries and six touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards a carry. He ran for 150 yards in a win over Western Michigan, and he's going to be a running back that Hokies fans are going to like. His body is built similarly to Tuten's, and he is not easy to bring down, while he's not afraid to run over a defensive player looking to make a tackle.
Virginia Tech also brought in Marcellous Hawkins and Braydon Bennett through the Transfer Portal, but Stewart is a player who could step in and fill Tuten's shoes with his ability to make cuts and his burst of speed that can elude players in the open field. He is someone who can certainly surprise a lot of people this year, and it shouldn't be surprising to see him on this list.
