On Friday, Virginia Tech held its annual Pro Day with the NFL Draft a month away in Pittsburgh. Last year, there were a handful of Hokeis who were preparing for the draft to hear their name called. In the end, there were some players who were drafted and made an impact last season in their rookie season.

This season, there isn't as much hype around some Virginia Tech players who could be drafted. One of them who took part in Pro Day was quarterback Kyron Drones. After taking over in 2023, the former Baylor signal caller led the Hokies to a big turnaround late in the season to become bowl-eligible. He played a big part in that.

However, the 2024 and 2025 seasons didn't go as planned for the Hokies and ended with major disappointment in each season. This past season, after Brent Pry was fired, he stuck it out and battled until the end of a season that ended at 3-9. On Friday, he was slinging it around at the Pro Day, and after, he revealed six teams that have been in contact with him ahead of the draft.

Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones drawing draft interest from NFL teams

According to Thomas Hughes of Virginia Tech On SI, Drones said that the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, and Green Bay Packers have reached out to him. That's an impressive list of contenders. However, these are just conversations, nothing else.

A couple of seasons ago, Drones made headlines working out with Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. Both QBs went in last season's draft, but Drones returned to Virginia Tech for 2025. The quarterback class this season is considered top-heavy, but does a team end up taking a chance on Drones by drafting him, or does he have to wait until the draft is over and get an undrafted free agent deal that a lot of players get? We'll see, but it will be interesting to watch to see how Drones' NFL stock unfolds.
