As soon as James Franklin was hired at Virginia Tech, you knew things were about to change on several fronts. One of those fronts might have gone under the radar: recruiting. More importantly, recruiting in the DMV was going to be critical.
It's no secret that when Franklin was at Penn State, he basically owed the DMV in recruiting, and Virginia Tech fans know it. There were times when he could come in and pluck some of the top recruits in the area right out from the Hokies and whoever the coach was. It was rough when Franklin was recruiting against Justin Fuente and Brent Pry.
However, when Franklin was named as Pry's replacement in Blacksburg, recruiting once again became a fun area for Hokies fans to watch. They got their first view of it over the winter when four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque de-committed from Michigan and reopened his recruitment. Kirby Smart and Georgia got into the mix, but when the dust settled, Bourque ended up picking the Hokies over the Bulldogs. Now, with the recruiting focus shifting to the Class of 2028, Virginia Tech is trending for an elite signal-caller from the Commonwealth.
Virginia Tech gets prediction for elite 2028 QB from Virginia
Chad Simmons of Rivals has been following Class of 2028 quarterback Anthony Turner from Virginia Beach, and he logged a prediction for the Hokies to land the four-star quarterback, with Nebraska a distant second.
According to Rivals Industry, Turner is the 303rd-ranked prospect in his class, the 21st-ranked quarterback, and the third-ranked player in Virginia. The 6-foot-3 Turner has a visit to Nebraska scheduled for Sept. 12.
As for Virginia Tech, this would be a huge addition and a solid beginning to get a commitment from an elite signal-caller. Virginia Tech hosted Turner back in the spring, and it appears that Franklin and quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien made an impression. Franklin knows keeping the talent in the state of Virginia is big, and Turner would be a tremendous addition.
