When the Virginia Tech football team suffered a brutal loss to Vanderbilt at home a week ago, 44-20, after being outscored 34-0 in the second half, it wasn't a great look with several dozen recruits on campus for the game, including four-star commit Andrew Rogers.
Early last week, Rogers announced on his X account that his visit scheduled for Saturday night's game against Old Dominion was canceled by the Hokies staff, which was a stunning move considering how much of a dicey situation head coach Brent Pry was in. As soon as he announced his visit wasn't happening, it didn't take Tennessee long to reach out and host Rogers.
On Saturday, he posted on his X account a picture of ESPN's College GameDay in Knoxville for the Volunteers' game against Georgia while in the crowd. After firing Pry on Sunday, to no surprise, the Hokies are on the verge of losing their biggest commitment in the Class of 2026.
Virginia Tech 4-star commit Andrew Rogers predicted to flip commitment to Tennessee
Rogers committed to the Hokies last month before the season started and remained committed to the Hokies, but all things might change after Virginia Tech fired Pry on Sunday. Chad Simmons of Rivals reported that Tennessee is gaining momentum in his recruitment and is now considered the frontrunner to get a flip from him.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Rogers, who hails from Greensboro, flip his commitment at any point, and truth be told, he won't be the last likely to change after Pry's firing. The class wasn't overall strong and ranked in the 80s at most recruiting rankings, but now the door is not only open for current players to leave Blacksburg, but also for recruits to flip their commitments. Again, it won't be surprising if it happens, or anyone else already committed.
