When Virginia Tech football was in the process of being run out of Lane Stadium by Vanderbilt in the second half on Saturday night, to the tune of being outscored 34-0 in the second half of a 44-20 loss, it happened in front of a handful of recruits who were either taking their official visit or were already committed to the program.
One of those commits was three-star edge Andrew Rogers from Greensboro, North Carolina, who committed to Virginia Tech last month. He reclassified from the Class of 2027 to the Class of 2026, and on Aug. 22, he committed to the Hokies. He was scheduled to return to Blacksburg this weekend for the game against Old Dominion, but according to Kolby Crawford of VTScoop, Rogers confirmed that the staff canceled his visit. Instead, he'll head to Tennessee to watch them host Georgia in a huge early-season SEC showdown.
My Official visit this weekend has been canceled .

Virginia Tech canceling Andrew Rogers visit is another Brent Pry fumble in 2025
After Virginia Tech canceled his visit this weekend, Tennessee contacted Rogers and offered him the invite to Knoxville. The 6-foot-6, 240-pounder is seen as one of the top recruits in the Class of 2026, which is low in numbers, but expect more schools to reach out to him after Virignia Tech's bizarre decision.
This move comes on the heels of a dreadful performance for the Hokies against the Commodores and it wasn't a great look for recruits. We're not breaking any news there. Why would you cancel the visit of one of your top recruits in the rising senior class like that? Rogers isn't happy.
This is just another fumble of the Brent Pry era in Blacksburg, and it is teetering at best right now. A loss this weekend to Old Dominion could really put things in a dicey spot for Pry and the school. This is just not a good look for a program looking for anything good right now.
