Going into the 2025 season, there are a number of teams heading into it with a ton of pressure on them. In 2024, several big-name schools saw a season that nobody envisioned coming, and that puts more pressure on them for this season.
Pro Football Focus listed the top 5 programs with the most pressure on them going into this season, and you will agree with nearly every team that made the list, but there was one missing who might be under a huge amount of pressure: Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech football omitted from PFF list which theyt clearly should have been on
Max Chadwick of PFF listed five schools, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, and USC, as the five schools facing the most pressure in 2025. Nowhere to be found was Virginia Tech, which is facing a vital season for Brent Pry, who is entering Year 4 in Blacksburg.
Now, without sounding negative, most Hokies fans will agree that 2025 is a rather big one for Pry and his staff, right? Last season was supposed to be the season where the program took the enxt step under Pry with all the retention he had along with some key transfers, but in the end, it only led to another 6-6 season under Pry, and they needed a Thanksgiving Weekend win over Virginia just to become bowl-eligible.
Now, if that happened at an SEC school, there might have been a lot of chatter surrounding Pry and his job, but at Virginia Tech, it must have been seen as a successful season that they were bowl-eligible. This offseason has been a lot different for Pry, who replaced three assistant coaches and saw a mass exodus through the transfer portal, along with players entering the NFL Draft.
There are several new and younger players looking to crack the Hokies' lineup this season, and quarterback Kyron Drones coming back is big, along with Pop Watson. All of the changes have led to a lot of questions about Virginia Tech going into the season, and there is no doubt that they should be mentioned with the above teams as a team facing the most pressure this fall.
