Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young is a quote machine. His postgame press conferences, win or lose, are must-see. Following his team’s 71-66 loss to Louisville at Cassell Coliseum, offered a great quote about his team's 22 turnovers.

“Twenty-two turnovers. Miserable,” said Young.

While he wasn’t wrong, he dug deeper into the reason why his team had so many turnovers, and in doing so, he threw some shade at Miami, a team that his Hokies handled, 81-68, three nights earlier in South Florida.

“Miami doesn’t guard anything,’’ said Young. “Louisville guards.’’

It was a shot at a Hurricanes team that is going to finish the season last place in the ACC and be one of three teams missing out on the conference tournament next month in Charlotte. Virginia Tech swept Miami this season in their two matchups and both times, they scored over 80 points.

Miami went through a coaching change when Jim Larranaga stepped down right after Christmas and things have been a struggle since. They are reportedly in the process of hiring Duke assistant Jai Lewis as their next coach.

Virginia Tech action on the field

  • The Hokies baseball team, winners of three straight, head to East Carolina this weekend for games against Indiana State, Kent State and East Carolina as part of the Keith LeClair Classic. At 6-2, this will be a good test for Virginia Tech.
  • Virginia Tech’s softball team, coming off of Emma Lemley’s third no-hitter of the season in a 9-0 win over Liberty on Wednesday night, will take part in the Hokie Invitational in Salem in what is going to be a great weekend of softball.
  • Winners of four straight after beating Queens, 21-10 on Wednesday, the Hokies women’s lacrosse team will host No. 1 Boston College on Saturday looking to improve on their 5-1 record in what will be their toughest game early in the season.
