Virginia Tech News: Hokies in the mix for elite RB, sweeping success, ugly loss

Recruiting is beginning to heat up with the Class of 2027. Virginia Tech and James Franklin entered the mix for four-star quarterback Peter Bourque from Massachusetts after he de-committed from Michigan earlier this week. Now, they are in the mix for another top prospect in the rising senior class from Massachusetts.

Four-star running back Isaiah Rogers from Springfield dropped his final eight, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, and Virginia Tech was one of the programs that made the cut. Also on the list for the fourth-ranked running back according to Rivals300 are Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, Nebraska, Indiana, UCLA, and North Carolina.

Softball wins a pair of games in Georgia

The Virginia Tech softball team opened its weekend in Georgia on Friday by sweeping a pair of games. They opened the day by beating Seton Hall, 7-2, then beat Utah State, 10-3, to improve to 9-2 on the season.

In the opener against the Pirates, Jordan Lynch had a solo home run and an RBI double, while the Hokies also had RBI hits from Zoe Yeager and Sara McNelly. Sophie Kleiman and Addyson Foster combined for the win in the circle, scattering seven hits and striking out four. In the second game against the Aggies, Virginia Tech got two hits from Kylie Aldridge (RBI) and a three-run double from Yeager. Avery Layton and Bree Carrico combined to allow four hits and struck out six in the circle.

Virginia Tech will play two more games on Saturday. They will play Seton Hall for a second time, then play host Georgia in the afternoon.

Baseball drops first game to Rutgers

After sweeping William & Mary last weekend and beating East Tennessee State University on Tuesday, the Hokies baseball team suffered its first setback of the season on Friday when Rutgers came to Blacksburg and rolled to a 16-1 victory.

The lone Virginia Tech run came on an Ethan Bell solo home run. The two teams will be back on the field for Game 2 on Saturday before closing out the series on Sunday afternoon.
