We are in the final week of the regular season before the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament begins in Charlotte next week and this year is going to be different. With the additions of Stanford, SMU, and California, the three teams that finish in the bottom of the conference are going to have their season end on Saturday after their final game.

Missing the tournament is not a way that any team wants to end their season, even if they would be a one-and-done. On Monday, Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, reported that Mike Young was returning to Blacksburg next season with an increased NIL package. His return is not a surprise as he hinted at it last month, but the NIL package increase is. Goodman also reported that ACC coaches on the hot seat are expected to return, according to his sources.

That includes Earl Grant at Boston College, Adian Autry at Syracuse, Steve Forbes at Wake Forest and Hubert Davis at North Carolina. Miami and Virginia have interim coaches and should make official decisions sooner rather than later.

Clemson and Florida State resolve lawsuit with the ACC

After many lawsuits and court battles, there was finally a resolution between Clemson, Florida State and the ACC. The biggest news was the exit fee to drop by $18 million each year through 2029-30, which drops it to $75 million and exiting teams will have media rights.

In the end, this is the official beginning of the end of the ACC as in less than a decade, it's unlikely the conference exists anymore.

New College Football Playoff chair announced

The College Football Playoff Committee announced that there will be a new selection committee chair for 2025 with Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades taking the position. Added to the selection committee was former Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio, Maryland AD Damon Evans, former sports writer Ivan Maisel, Middle Tennessee State AD Chris Massaro, and former Ole Miss tight end Wesley Walls.

For those of you keeping score at home, no one from the ACC was added to the committee this year.

Men’s track captures ACC Championship

The Hokies men’s indoor track & field team captured the ACC Championships at Louisville, edging out Virginia by seven points to capture the title with 82 points. Jackson Lincoln IV won MVP honors after setting a facility record in the 400 with a time of 45.68 seconds. The women finished sixth with 53 points.

Virginia Tech action on the field

  • The women’s lacrosse team will host Mount St. Mary’s in a non-conference game Wednesday, looking to bounce back from a loss to Boston College on Saturday.
  • Baseball and softball will begin conference play this weekend with the baseball team hosting Georgia Tech and the softball team hosting Virginia. Both are three-game series.
  • Fresh off of sharing the ACC Championship with North Carolina and North Carolina State, the Hokeis wrestling team will head to the ACC Championships this weekend at NC State.
