The Virginia Tech men's basketball team had a chance to sweep in-state rival Virginia on Saturday, but fell short, 73-70, at Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies dug themselves a deep double-digit first half hole and every time they made a run in the second half, the Cavaliers and Issac McKneely had the answering. The sharpshooter knocked down some very difficult shots.
Now looking to stay as far away from the bottom three spots in the ACC standings, which means those teams don't qualify for the conference tournament next month, the Hokies hit the road for a pair of games this week beginning Tuesday night in Boston.
How to watch Virginia Tech at Boston College men's basketball game
Virginia Tech heads to Chestnut Hill Tuesday night to take on Boston College in the teams only meeting this season. The Eagles enter the game off a loss at North Carolina State on Saturday afternoon and are tied for last place in the ACC with Miami at 2-12.
Date: Tuesday, Feb. 18
Time: 9:00 p.m.
How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, ESPN+, or FuboTV
Venue: Conte Forum
Virginia Tech Record: 11-14 (6-8 ACC)
Boston College Record: 10-15 (2-12 ACC)
Virginia Tech can all but lock up a berth in the ACC Tournament next month with at least one win this week as they have a trip to South Florida to play the Hurricanes for the second time this season on Saturday night after their trip to BC. Seven wins should be more than enough to head to Charlotte, but eight would be a lock.
The health of Virginia Tech's Jaden Schutt will be a question as the Duke transfer was battling the flu on Saturday against Virginia, which forced him to miss the final 13 minutes of the game. As we know, it's been a bad flu season and hopefully, it doesn't spread through the Hokies locker room.
Boston College has been in a lot of their games this season despite winning just two games. They blew a late lead at North Carolina, only to lose in overtime. They also blew a lead at Syracuse to lose in OT and then they dropped a game to Notre Dame at home last week in, you guessed it, overtime.
