Four nights after putting together one of the more uninspiring efforts not only in the 2024-25 season but in decades, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team heads to South Florida looking for a bounce-back win. Tuesday night at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, the Hokies scored 36 points in an 18-point loss to the Eagles.

The loss was one of the more frustrating ones for not only Mike Young but his team and the fanbase. Boston College went into the game 2-12 in the ACC and was the more prepared and ready team. This weekend, Virginia Tech gets another ACC cellar-dweller when they visit 2-13 Miami, looking for a season sweep of the Hurricanes.

Virginia Tech men's basketball looking four bounce-back win at Miami

It's time to flush Tuesday night's effort away and look toward Miami. Last month, the Hokies fell behind early and needed to mount a big second-half comeback that was completed when Mylyjael Poteat scored an and-one basket with 2.7 seconds left for a one-point win. That kickstarted a month that saw the Hokies pick up some wins and put themselves in a position to qualify for the ACC Tournament next month.

In reality, a win over BC or Miami would almost solidify the Hokies' spot in Charlotte, but after falling to Boston College, this feels like a must-win for Virginia Tech with games still remaining with Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse, and Clemson.

The formula to winning this game for Virginia Tech is simple, take care of the ball, run their offense, and defend. Easier said than done, I know. As we have seen this season with the Hokies, when the ball is moving on offense and they are getting the shots they want, things click. When they stand around and the ball sticks as Young would say, we get what we saw against BC.
