Signing Day is just two days away for college football, and new Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin has been busy quickly adding to his Class of 2026 in Blacksburg. He has brought in some former Penn State commits over the last week, and more are expected to be joining him at his new job.

Some recruits committed to Virginia Tech when Brent Pry was still the coach and remained committed to Franklin. Some, however, left before Franklin was brought on board and de-committed, and others have decided to de-commit right before signing day.

Class of 2026 QB Cole Bergeron de-commits from Virginia Tech

Back in the spring, Cole Bergeron attended a camp in Blacksburg, and he impressed so much that then-offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery and offensive assistant coach Brian Crist offered him a scholarship. In August, he ended up committing to the Hokies.

Since the coaching change, the Lafayette, La., native has opened his options, and the 6-foot-4, 210-pound signal caller de-committed from Virginia Tech on Monday, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. Given the situation with Pry being fired and Franklin being hired, it wasn't surprising.

Again, this is not surprising as another Class of 2026 quarterback, Troy Huhn, the 21st-ranked quarterback in the class, is set to make his decision on Monday afternoon, with Virginia Tech and Penn State as his final two. He previously committed to Franklin at Penn State.

Franklin has already landed a running back and three offensive linemen to date since arriving in Blacksburg, and it would be surprising if Huhn didn't follow his former Nittany Lions' commits.

As for Bergeron, he was a late addition to the recruiting cycle and will land on his feet somewhere else. Now that he de-committed, he will likely be hearing from several schools two days ahead of signing day.
