After going on the road and picking up a 35-26 non-conference win at Maryland on Saturday night in College Park, the Virginia Tech football team finished its non-conference ACC schedule at 3-0 after home wins over MI and Old Dominion in the first two weeks.
Now, with nine games left in the season, all eyes are turning to the ACC slate, which begins on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass., against Boston College. The Eagles are 2-1 after wins over Rutgers and Maine at home, after a season-opening loss at Cincinnati. Virginia Tech is a two-touchdown favorite over the Eagles, but as much as BC is going to be a challenging opponent, so is Mother Nature.

The game is still five days away; however, what can't be ignored is that the potential weather conditions at BC are lining up to be bad. Very bad. Right now, and again, it's still five days away, but signs are there for a major Nor'easter battering the Northeast beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend. Anywhere from 2-7 inches of rain is expected, and winds are expected to gust to near-hurricane force near the coast, which is where Boston is located. Again. This is a potential threat and one that needs to be monitored if you're James Franklin and the Hokies staff.
While not technically a hurricane, the coastal impacts from a powerful Nor'easter will bring "battering waves" and erosion plus very strong winds perhaps gusting to 70-80 mph.

Yuck. Look, Virginia Tech might be a double-digit favorite, but make no mistake about it: this is a huge trap game for Franklin on a sunny day, but if you add in a potential Nor'easter, then that could be a rather big game-changer. Offensively, that is going to affect what Hokies OC Ty Howle will want to do, while on the defensive side, it makes it different for DC Brent Pry to defend dual-threat Boston College QB Mason McKenzie as well.

Now, let's be clear about this: it is still five days away from the ball being kicked off at noon on the ACC Network, but the weather can have a major effect on the game, and it is something that could pose problems for the Hokies and create a tougher matchup than they might expect. The weather across the country in the fall varies, but the projected weather scenario that could play out would be a major headache and would likely change some of the game plans for both teams.
