Recruiting has been booming for James Franklin and the Virginia Tech football team. The Hokies are up to 23 commits in the Class of 2027 after three-star athlete Semaj Dozier committed on Wednesday morning.

That came on the heels of Virginia Tech and Franklin securing three commitments from four-stars on Sunday. They have a Top 10 class all of a sudden in recruiting for the rising seniors, which in the overall big picture shouldn't be surprising.

However, as is the case every year in recruiting, you win some, you lose some. That was the case on Wednesday. Four-star interior offensive lineman Dominic Black committed to Kentucky over Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Indiana. Also, four-star edge Rion Jackson committed to Auburn over the Hokies. Again, you win some, you lose some, but fans should be excited by what Franklin has accomplished so far and what the future holds.

Virginia Tech baseball suffers two losses

For the most part, so far, the news has been more positive than negative for Hokies baseball coach John Szefc when it comes to offseason change, so far. Anderson French is the lone position player to date who has entered the Transfer Portal. Virginia Tech has lost some pitchers, and two have already committed for 2027.

Ben Weber is returning to Xavier, but on Wednesday, Chase Swift committed to Miami to remain in the ACC. That's a tough destination for Hokies fans to see happen. Ideally, Swift anding outside the ACC would have been better. Also leaving is Chase Lummus, who was Virginia Tech's pitching assistant, and is heading to Lamar.

As far as good news goes for the Hokies on the baseball diamond, they have announced that pitcher Logan Eisenreich is coming back, as is Ethan Grim. On Wednesday, it was announced that infielder Ethan Gibson is also returning, along with Hudson Lutterman and Sam Grube.
