Coming off a bye, the Virginia Tech football team will host California on Friday night at Lane Stadium in an ACC game. Interim coach Philip Montgomery is leading the Hokies for the rest of the season while the search committee begins its search for Brent Pry's replacement.
Despite an interim coach and questions surrounding the program going forward, Virginia Tech picked up a commitment on Wednesday. Class of 2026 tight end Isaiah Pina committed to the Hokies, becoming the first tight end commit since the 2023 cycle. The 6-foot-6 Pina from Florida picked Virginia Tech over several schools, including UNLV, where Dan Mullen is the head coach and is a sleeper candidate for the position in Blacksburg.
I Want to thank God for allowing me to continue my football career thank you to @coachQuanSLH @brad_lord @coachRholley and @FootballSlhs helping me in every way. With that being said I am excited to announce my commitment to @HokiesFB @coachbrentdavis #AGTG @tolbert_nance pic.twitter.com/fcWEp0vV0a

Former Virginia Tech WBB player joining Clemson staff
There were a number of key players for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team that helped them get to the Final Four in 2023. One of those players was Cayla King, a four-year starter for the Hokies, who is getting into the coaching ranks in the ACC.
King is joining Shawn Poppie's staff at Clemson as a graduate assistant, according to Mitchell Northam.
Tyrod Taylor in line to start this weekend
It has been a bizarre week around the New York Jets, to say the least. Owner Woody Johnson called out starting quarterback Justin Fields, while backing head coach Aaron Glenn after a 0-7 start. Go figure.
Glenn isn't committing to a quarterback this weekend when New York plays the Cincinnati Bengals, but according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tyrod Taylor, a former Virginia Tech QB, has a chance to start, but is listed day-to-day with a knee injury. We'll see what happens.
Men's soccer beats Winthrop
The Hokies' men's soccer team played their final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Winthrop at Thompson Field. Andy Sullins opened the scoring in the 34th minutes before Dagur Traustason added an insurance strike in the 51st minutes. Virginia Tech will host California on Sunday at 6 p.m. looking to improve on their 6-3-4 record.
