Another day, another former Virginia Tech football player who leaes Blacksburg for the SEC. That's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Virginia Tech OL commits to LSU
One huge storyline in this transfer portal window has been the number of former Hokies on the football field who have committed to SEC schools. That trend continued on Saturday with offensive lineman Braelin Moore when he committed to LSU, joining former Tech teammate Mansoor Delane who signed with the Tigers last week.
Defensive lineman returning for 2025
The Hokies had a ton of talent along the defensive line this year with players who returned from last and some transfer portal additions. Leaving after this season is Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Aeneas Peebles. However, Saturday the Hokies got some good news in terms of retainment for 2025 with Keyshawn Burgos.
The Chesterfield native announced on his X account that he'll be returning for another season in Blacksburg. This season in 11 games, the junior had 28 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery in the Hokies, 42-21, rout of Boston College at Lane Stadium back in October.
Women's basketball routs Campbell
Like the men, the women's basketball team closed out the non-conference schedule on Saturday but they had a much better result than Mike Young's team did against Saint Joseph's. Megan Duffy's team rolled to an 81-46 victory over Campbell at Cassell Coliseum.
Matilda Ekh led the Hokies with 15 points and they also got 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists from Mackenzie Nelson. Carys Baker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lanie White (six rebounds) and Carleigh Wenzel (five assists) each had nine points. The Hokies, which improved to 9-3, shot 50% from the field in the game. Virginia Tech returns to action on Jan. 2 at home against Florida State.
