There were a number of surprises over the last week when it came to Virginia Tech football players entering the transfer portal. Some starters surprisingly entered the portal and one cornerback decided to enter the portal rather than declare for the NFL Draft with a year of eligibility remaining.
This past weekend, Mansoor Delane took a visit to an SEC school, as did offensive lineman Xavier Chaplin. On Sunday, Chaplin committed to the school he visited, Auburn, and on Monday, Delane was so impressed on the trip that he committed as well.
Mansoor Delane commits to LSU
After visiting LSU and head coach Brian Kelly, Delane, whose younger brother Faheem committed to Ohio State back in June, committed to the Tigers for the 2025 campaign. Playing in the LSU will only give him a chance to make a bigger name for himself when it comes to the 2026 Draft.
Make no mistake about it, LSU has a history of producing NFL cornerbacks and Delane is hoping to add his name to that list after one season in Baton Rogue. He was good during his time in Blacksburg, although he struggled at times this season, but he made the decision last season to come back to Virginia Tech for 2024 when Brent Pry got a ton of retainment on both sides of the ball.
LSU failed to make the new 12-team College Football Playoff this season and like around college football, there is pressure on Kelly to produce a winner not only in the SEC but in the CFP. He has been busy in the portal and there is no doubt that he is getting a good one in Delane who will step right in and make an impact for the Tigers in the loaded conference.
