There is a lot going on with Virginia Tech athletics this week.

This weekend, the Virginia Tech football team will have their first of two byes this season after a win at Stanford this past weekend. Even though there is no football, there are plenty of other things going on for Hokies’ athletics, which is where we’ll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.

Odd football stats from Stanford win

Two interesting stats from last weekend’s win over the Cardinal on the football field. No, one of them isn’t the embarrassing attendance Stanford had at home, but Stanford Stadium was 2,274.13 miles from Lane Stadium. Ah yes, conference realignment at its best. Another stat from the weekend was when the Hokies found the end zone in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead, it was the 376th consecutive game where Virginia Tech was not shutout. It’s the fourth current streak going.

Basketball ACC Tipoff begins Wednesday

The ACC’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will converge on the city of Charlotte for the ACC Tipoff. The Virginia Tech women, with first-year head coach Megan Duffy being joined by Carliegh Wenzel, Matilda Ehk, and Rose Micheaux will meet with the media on Wednesday. On Thursday, men’s coach Mike Young will be joined by Mylyjael Poteat and transfer Ben Burnham.

Men’s & Women’s soccer host ACC matches

Thursday, the Hokies’ women’s soccer team, which is ranked 21st in the country, will look to continue their momentum from their upset of No. 6 Florida State when they host SMU at Thompson Field at 7 p.m. On Friday night, the men, ranked 24th, will host North Carolina State at 6 p.m.

Volleyball heads out on a two-game trip

While the soccer teams will have home matches this week, the volleyball team will hit the road for a pair of ACC matches. Friday night, they’ll be at Georgia Tech at 7 p.m., before stopping at Clemson on their way back to Blacksburg on Sunday at 1 p.m.
