There is no doubt that Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia is a good signal caller. He ran all over Virginia Tech last year in the Commodores' 34-27 overtime victory in Nashville. He was a big reason why Vandy set the tone for a season that saw them end playing in a bowl.
Pavia won a battle this offseason to get another year of eligibility to play another year for Vanderbilt. He opened the season in impressive fashion against Charleston Southern at home last Saturday and now has his sights set on Blacksburg. He is a player who loves to find motivation anywhere, from something said or written. On Tuesday, Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry wouldn't give it to him.
"Diego Pavia, obviously one of the best quarterbacks in the country,'' said Pry. "This guy, to me, if (LaNorris) Sellers is a Heisman (Trophy) candidate — which I think he is — this kid has gotta be in the conversation."
No such luck for the former New Mexico State QB getting bulletin board material from the Hokies head coach, but I'm sure he'll find motivation somewhere else.
Men's and women's soccer have games on tap
Coming off a frustrating 2-2 tie at No. 2 Marshall last Friday night, the Hokies men's soccer team will host in-state rival Virginia on Friday night at Thompson Field a 7 p.m. At 2-0-1, the Hokies will be looking to secure another big win early in the season. Virginia Tech climbed to No. 8 in the recent Top 25 poll.

Volleyball hits the road again
After winning two out of three matches at UNC-Wilmington last weekend in the Seahawk Classic, the Hokies volleyball team will look to improve on its record this weekend with three more matches on the road in Delaware.
On Friday, they will play Hampton at 2 p.m., and then host Delaware at 6 p.m. On Saturday afternoon, they will play Le Moyne at 1 p.m. to close out the weekend.
