Believe it or not, but Virginia Tech has received a No. 1 ranking in college football.

There is nothing better in the fall on a Saturday afternoon or evening than college football traditions. Take your pick as to which one is the best, but one thing is for sure: nearly every college fan base thinks it’s the best.

Grant Hughes from 247Sports ranked the Top 10 college football traditions and at the top of his list was Virginia Tech and Enter Sandman. You can’t disagre that hearing Metallica blasted over the speaker as the Hokies take the field doesn’t give anyone goose bumps.

Virginia Tech edged out Wisconsin’s “Jump Around” and “Chief Osceola’s Spear Plant” at Florida State, something the Hokies will see up close in November when they travel to Tallahassee. “Dotting The I” at Ohio State finished fourth, and “Rollin'g Toomer’s Corner” at Auburn was fifth.

John Szefc’s message to Virginia Tech baseball fans

After being eliminated in the second round of the ACC Tournament by Clemson, coach John Szefc posted a message to fans on X that the Hokies “will be back stronger than ever in 2026.” Easier said than done, and fans don't want to hear about another underperforming season in Blacksburg.

This will be the third straight NCAA Tournament that the Hokies will miss after getting to the Super Regionals in 2022. It was another season where Virginia Tech looked destined for the 64-team field, only to completely fizzle out over the second half of the season. Injuries happen, but this team was too talented to miss the NCAA Tournament.

Brent Pry adds to staff

What had been reported for a couple of weeks became reality when Hokies' football coach Brent Pry announced that he has hired Jeffrey Eaton as Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning. Eaton comes to Blacksburg from Miami, where he spent the last three seasons.

Prior to joining Miami, Eaton was at Oregon from 2019-21 and he also had a stint at Purdue. Strength and conditioning has been a topic of late for Virginia Tech and this is a hire that should help turn things around for the football program.
