Any glimmer of hope the Virginia Tech baseball team had of making the NCAA Tournament was all but dashed by Virginia on Thursday night in Blacksburg. Needing to sweep a series against their in-state rivals, the Hokies were trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh before a Sam Tackett two-run homer made it 3-2, but the Cavaliers were not having a comeback by the home team.

Virginia, which is rolling toward an NCAA Tournament berth itself, broke the game open with five runs in the top of the eighth and added four more in the ninth for the 12-2 rout of Virginia Tech. Cavaliers starter Jay Woolfolk dominated the Hokies over eight innings, allowing two runs, five hits, walking one, and striking out six. Game 2 will be Friday night, with the series final scheduled for Saturday before both teams head to the ACC Tournament next week, which will be single elimination this year.

Former Virginia Tech star to make professional debut

It has been a long 14 months for former Virginia Tech women's basketball star Elizabeth Kitley. After tearing her ACL in the final regular season game in 2024 at Virginia, she missed the ACC and NCAA Tournament, which was a brutal way to end her college career.

Her injury didn't stop her from being drafted a month later in the WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces. After over a year of rehab and conditioning, Kitley is set to make her official WNBA debut on Saturday afternoon when the Aces travel to New York to play the Liberty at 1 o'clock on ABC. It will be fun to watch Kitley play her first professional season this summer.

Virginia Tech football reportedly to add to staff

We are over two months away from camp starting for the 2025 season for the Virginia Tech football team, but head coach Brent Pry is reportedly adding to his staff. According to Evan Watkins of 247Sports, the Hokies are expected to add Miami assistant strength and conditioning coach Jeff Eaton. This would be a big hire for Tech if it ended up happening.
