It has been a tough start to the season for the Virginia Tech women's soccer team in 2025. After making a run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament last year, the Hokies entered Saturday night's ACC match against North Carolina State in the rain looking for their first conference win of the season. They were oh so close before disaster struck.

Leading the Wolfpack 4-3 with 10 seconds left, the Hokies allowed the tying goal in what was a wild scoring affair at Thompson Field. Virginia Tech got goals from Natalie Mitchell, Hannah Pachan, Anna Weir, and Taylor Lewin. At 4-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the ACC, the Hokies will travel to Charlottesville on Saturday night to play top-ranked Virginia at 7 p.m.

NFL weekend recap

It was a busy Sunday for some former Virginia Tech football players in the NFL, playing a big part in their teams' wins.

  • Running back Bhayshul Tuten helped the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the San Francisco 49ers, 26-21, on the road. He returned two punts for 78 yards, including a 54-yard return where he was one tackle away from returning it for a touchdown.
  • Parker Romo is settling into his new job with the Atlanta Falcons. The former Hokies' kicker connected on field goals from 38 and 26 yards, while nailing all of his extra points in a 34-27 win over the Washington Commanders.
  • The Buffalo Bills continue to roll along through the first four weeks and won a closer game than people thought it would be against the New Orleans Saints, 31-19. Former Hokies defensive back Dorian Strong recorded four tackles for the Bills.
  • One of the biggest matchups on Sunday was in Kansas City with the Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens. In KC's 37-20 victory, Chamarri Conner recorded six tackles for the Chiefs.
  • One of the most exciting finishes of the day happened in Las Vegas with the Chicago Bears winning, 25-24, after they blocked a field goal attempt from the Raiders in the final minute. Tremaine Edmunds continues to shine early in the season for Chicago as he registered 11 tackles, six solo, in the victory.

Volleyball swept by California schools

It was a tough weekend for the Hokies volleyball team, dropping both matches at Cassell Coliseum. They lost 3-0 to California on Saturday, before being swept by third-ranked Stanford on Sunday to fall to 8-5 overall, and they have now lost four straight. They are off until hosting Syracuse and Boston College next weekend.

Men's soccer returns to the pitch

It has been a week since the Hokies' men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Stanford on the road and fell to 2-2-3 overall. They play a non-conference game at East Tennessee State on Monday at 6 p.m., before traveling to Notre Dame for an ACC match on Friday night.
