When news broke last week that Virginia Tech men's basketball assistant coach Kevin Giltner was the frontrunner for the Wofford opening, which would leave a big hole on Mike Young's bench in Blacksburg. On Thursday, the veteran coach filled Giltner's spot with a veteran assistant.
Virginia Tech announced the hiring of David Moats to the Hokies' staff. He spent the last eight years at Boise State with stops at Wyoming, Florida, and Weber State along the way. He's the second assistant coach added after Chester Frazier was hired last spring.
C.W. Network announcers announced
After four non-conference games to begin the season and firing Brent Pry after Week 3, the Virginia Tech football team will hit the road to Raleigh on Saturday night to play North Carolina State at Carter-Finley Stadium at 7 p.m. This week's game will be broadcast on the C.W. Network with a familiar voice calling the game.
Thom Brennaman, who called some Hokies' games last year for the same network, is back for another year behind the mic and will handle the play-by-play duties. Will Blackmon will be the analyst, and Wes Durham will be the sideline reporter. This is the first of two straight games on the C.W. Network as Virginia Tech's ACC home opener against Wake Forest will be on the same channel.
ACC/SEC Challenge times set for men and women's basketball
The matchups for the men's and women's ACC/SEC Challenge basketball games in the first week of December were set a while back, and now, the times and TV channels have been set for both challenges.
The Virginia Tech men will travel to South Carolina to play the Gamecocks on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network, while the women will host Florida two nights later at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
Recruit still committed, but open to offers
After Brent Pry was fired, the Hokies had some commits in their future de-commit, which should be no surprise. One commit, Buddy Wegdam, announced on his X account that he's still committed to Virginia Tech, but his recruitment is still open.
The Class of 2026 commit from Woodberry Forest posted that he has received an offer from Wake Forest, which just happens to be visiting Blacksburg on Oct. 4 for a game at 1 p.m. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get more offers as the fall goes along.
