When the season began, there were a handful of college football coaches who were on the hot seat. One of them is Mike Norvell at Florida State, and another one is Bill Belichick at North Carolina. Let's not forget Bill O'Brien at Boston College.
Norvell and Belichick helped quiet the noise for a week with Week 0 wins, but O'Brien didn't do himself any favors with an ugly loss at Cincinnati last weekend. Norvell and Florida State began ACC play on Monday night with a 27-24 loss to SMU at home. The beginning of the gam was delayed due to a power outage, but the end of the game was on when transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels didn't make the correct read, and Norvell, well, threw him under the bus.
On Thursday, John Evans of Noles247 reported that Norvell said that "Daniels should have pulled the ball on the first play of the Seminoles' drive that could have won the game with over six minutes to play. Instead, the drive ended in a sack, and SMU went down the field for the game-winning kick.''
For a coach who is on the hot seat like Norvell, throwing your veteran signal caller under the bus like that seems like a rather desperate move.
Michael Vick leads Norfolk State into Charlottesville
When Michael Vick was the quarterback at Virginia Tech, he made opponents' defenses not look forward to playing the Hokies. Now, as a coach, he's rebuilding the Norfolk State program, and on Friday night, he'll lead his team into Scott Stadium against No. 25 Virginia.
Earlier this week, current Cavaliers coach Tony Elliott spoke about wanting to meet Vick on Friday night and what he meant to college football during his career and even long after. Vick is even getting some social media love from UVA fans. What in the world is going on here?
