We are in the middle of what is going to be a busy Holiday week of athletics for Virginia Tech. In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, we’ll begin with Mike Young and his team looking to rebound from a loss on Monday night.

Men’s basketball to play South Carolina

After a 75-63 loss to Michigan on Monday night in the semifinals of the Fort Myers Tip-Off, the Hokies will look to enter their Thanksgiving break with a win in the consolation game Wednesday night against South Carolina.

The Gamecocks lost Monday night to Butler, 75-66, and the game will be broadcast on FS1 beginning at 6 o’clock. Currently on a three-game losing streak, the Hokies are 3-3 and the schedule gets tougher once the calendar turns to December when ACC play begins.

Women’s soccer in Elite Eight vs. Duke

The women’s soccer team will play their Elite Eight game at Duke on Saturday night at 6 o’clock and that game will be broadcast on ESPN+. A win and the Hokies will be College Cup bound the first weekend in December. It will be a tall task against the Blue Devils, but Virginia Tech is playing its best soccer of the season at the right time.

Volleyball to close season with two matches

The Hokies volleyball team will close out their season with a pair of matches this week. Wednesday, they will be at Notre Dame for a 2 o’clock match with the Irish on ACC Network Extra. Friday, they will host Syracuse at Cassell Coliseum at 1:30 p.m., also on ACC Network Extra, Virginia Tech is 1-17 in the ACC and 7-21 overall this season.

Softball schedule released

Fresh off a trip to the NCAA Tournament last spring, the Hokies softball team released their 2025 schedule that will once again, include some tough non-conference games on the road, something they wouldn’t have any other way.

This season’s schedule includes highlighted non-conference games against Alabama, LSU, and Kentucky. Once ACC play begins, Virginia Tech will host first-year member Stanford in late March, then they will travel to California in late April for a series at Cal. They close out the regular season at home against Florida State with a three-game set from May 2-4.
