Since James Franklin was hired at Virginia Tech, it's not only Hokies fans who have been paying close attention to every move he makes. So do a lot of Penn State fans who claim that they don't care what happens next with him.
Since he was hired in Blacksburg a month after getting fired from Penn State, Franklin has hit the ground running in recruiting and is bringing the Hokies to some long overdue spots there. Virginia Tech and Penn State have been battling for some recruits, and the Nittany Lions and new coach Matt Campbell have picked up some recruiting wins over Franklin.
However, there has been some trolling of Virginia Tech and Franklin in some commitments, with recruits mocking Virginia Tech before making their selection. Some Penn State fans got a kick out of that, but they didn't like it when the roles were reversed recently.
Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor on Monday night picked Nebraska over Penn State, but it was more about the way he did it. The Pennsylvania native threw some shade and had some fun at the expense of Campbell and Penn State.
“For the next three-to-four years, I’ll be taking my talents to the University of… Penn State,” said Taylor before taking the Penn State hat off, throwing it away and committing to Nebraska.
As expected, Penn State fans were upset about it, but it's a little salt in the wound that Virginia Tech fans know all too well. A little humble pie this summer.
Mike Young returning to Wofford
Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young was the head coach at Wofford from 2002 to 2019 before coming to Blacksburg. Before last season, the veteran coach lost one of his top assistants, Kevin Giltner, who left to be the head coach of the Terriers. This fall, the two will be reunited on the sidelines in an exhibition game.
The Hokies will travel on Oct. 16 to play at Wofford and Giltner at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium as part of Wofford's Homecoming Weekend. This is a nice gesture by Young, bringing Tech to play a mid-major on the road in a non-conference game at his former employer.

One player that Giltner coached while he was at Virginia Tech, Hunter Cattoor, will be on the sideline for the Hokies after Young hired him this spring.
Virginia Tech baseball adds another portal addition on the mound
The makeover of the Virginia Tech baseball pitching staff continues this summer with the addition of Kaiden Lopez through the Transfer Portal. The College of Central Florida right-hander is the latest to commit to head coach John Szefc to complete a new-look staff for 2027, which got a ton of retention from key position players from this past season's NCAA Tournament team.
