When the Virginia Tech football team takes the field on Friday night at Lane Stadium, they will do so going up against one of the better quarterbacks so far this season in the ACC, Mason Heintschel. The sophomore has been impressive through his first four games.
In wins over Miami of Ohio, Central Florida, Syracuse, and Bucknell, the Ohio native has thrown for 1,191 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just one interception. He has completed 88 of his 130 pass attempts. Without a doubt, he'll be ther toughest signal caller the Hokies will have faced to date this year, and first-year head coach James Franklin knows how good Heintschel is.
"He's obviously a good decision-maker and does a really good job distributing the ball," Franklin said. "They're also getting the ball to a bunch of different guys."
Virginia Tech's secondary has struggled under Brent Pry a bit this season and will need to play better against the Panthers' explosive offense that can put up points in a hurry.
Pitt is playing its first road game of 2026
After four straight games at home to begin the 2026 season, Pittsburgh will play its first road game of the season on Friday night in Blacksburg. Not only will it be their first road game, but it'll be a true road game in an environment that is expected to be a bit rowdy. Head coach Pat Narduzzi knows what will be waiting for his club.
"The noise component in Blacksburg kind of forces some adjustments in terms of the communication on both sides of the field," Narduzzi said. "It'll be one of the louder games we play."

- Fresh off a 3-1 ACC victory at Clemson on Sunday, the Hokies volleyball team will head to Northern California this upcoming weekend with matches against Stanford and Cal. Virginia Tech is 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
