There have been some players who have taken advantage of the Transfer Portal over the last couple of seasons. It's not common to see a player on the move one or two times, but three or four? That's a lot, but for former Virginia Tech guard Rodney Brown, Jr., he is heading to his fourth program in as many years for 2026-27.
Brown, Jr. started at California before coming to Blacksburg to play for Mike Young and Virginia Tech. After one season with the Hokies, he went back to California and played at Loyola Marymount. After one season in the West Coast Conference, he's headed to the Big East.
Brown, Jr. committed to Seton Hall on Thursday, according to Joe Tipton. He led the West Coast Conference with 87 made 3-pointers, and he averaged 14 points per game in 2025-26.
Hokies softball faces weekend series in New York
The Virginia Tech softball team heads to Syracuse for a three-game weekend series with the Orange. This is a rather big series for the Hokies and head coach Pete D'Amour for several reasons with the ACC and NCAA Tournament around the corner.
Virginia Tech has qualified for the ACC Tournament next week in Charlottesville and is playing for seeding against Syracuse. Also at stake is a last chance to make a case to host an NCAA Tournament Regional in a couple of weeks. Ther chances took a massive hit, one that they might not be able to overcome, two weeks ago after dropping a conference series at home to Georgia Tech before losing a mid-week non-conference game to Liberty. They are coming off a weekend sweep of North Carolina last weekend in Blacksburg in their final home games of the regular season.

- John Szefc and the Hokies baseball team head to California for a three-game weekend series against the Cal Golden Bears in their first trip out West against their second-year ACC foe. Virginia Tech is playing some good baseball and slowly working its way onto the NCAA Tournament bubble, and a successful weekend would be taking two out of three over the Golden Bears before a break from ACC play next weekend. They will host Clemson to close out their conference slate in two weeks.
