Virginia Tech Hokies News: Football prepares for BC, volleyball spikes Clemson & more

It was a busy weekend in Blacksburg and it's going to be a busy week for Hokies' athletics.

After a bye this past weekend, the Virginia Tech football team will play Thursday night to begin Week 8 at home against Boston College. Despite Brent Pry and his team being off this weekend, there was plenty of other action in Blacksburg and that is where we'll begin the latest Virginia Tech Hokies News.

Volleyball spikes Clemson

The weekend didn't start off on a good note for the Hokies volleyball with a 3-0 loss at No. 20 Georgia Tech Friday night, but they rebounded Sunday afternoon to pick up their first ACC win of the 2024 season in four sets.

Men's soccer ties NC State

The 24th-ranked Hokies men's soccer team played to a scoreless tie against North Carolina State Friday night at Thompson Field. Virginia Tech goalie Cooper Wenzel made three saves for the clean sheet.

At 6-3-2 overall and just 1-3-1 in the ACC, the Hokies return to the pitch Tuesday night at home against Winthrop before returning to ACC play at Wake Forest next Saturday night.

Four ACC football teams make latest Top 25

Sunday, the Associated Press Top 25 football poll was released with four ACC teams in it. Miami came in at No. 6 while Clemson was at No. 10, Pittsburgh is No. 20 and SMU is one spot behind the Panthers.

Virginia Tech to host Boston College

As mentioned above, the Hokies football team will come off their bye week hosting Boston College at Lane Stadium. The Hokies will come into the game 3-3 while the Eagles are 4-2 and coming in off a loss at Virginia, 24-14, on Oct. 5.

Last season Virginia Tech traveled to Chestnut Hill, Mass., and beat Boston College for a huge road win that propelled them toward becoming bowl-eligible. A win this week would be a step in becoming bowl-eligible for Pry's team.
