Virginia Tech Hokies News: Football Opens as Dogs vs. Clemson, ACC Soccer Tournaments Begin

As the calendar turns to November, things are beginning to pick for Virginia Tech athletics. Monday, the men's and women's basketball teams begin their seasons at home, while the men's and women's soccer teams begin the ACC Tournament. The football team will host Clemson this upcoming weekend and that's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Football opens as underdog vs. Clemson
Saturday, Virginia Tech lost in overtime at Syracuse, and Clemson was beaten at home by Louisville. This weekend, the Tigers will visit Lane Stadium, and Sunday, they opened as a 6.5-point favorite over the Hokies. The line will move this week and likely be higher in favor of the visitors by the time kick-off happens at 3:30 p.m.
Women's soccer falls in ACC Tournament
The Hokies women's soccer team fell to North Carolina, 2-0, in the first round Sunday night of the ACC Tournament on a pair of second-half Tar Heels goals. Virginia Tech, ranked 12th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, fell to 11-5-3 and now will await to see if they get an NCAA Tournament berth down the road.
Men's soccer to open ACC Tournament at Duke
It was a disappointing season in ACC play for the Hokies men's soccer team finishing at 1-5-2 and that got them the 14th seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament that begins Wednesday night. Virginia Tech will open the tourney at third-seeded Duke at 7 p.m. The two teams met on Oct. 25 in Blacksburg with the Blue Devils winning, 1-0.
Volleyball drops two home matches
It wasn't an easy beginning to the month of November for the Hokies volleyball team. Friday night, they lost 3-0 to No. 12 SMU at home, then on Sunday, top-ranked Pittsburgh also won 3-0 in Blacksburg. At 1-10 in the ACC and 7-14 overall, Tech will travel to Virginia Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. match with the Cavaliers.
