Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy has slowly been building a roster for the 2025-26 season around her returning core players. So fr, Duffy has portal commitments from Purdue's Sophie Swanson and Kilah Freelon from Texas Tech. On Thursday, she picked up her third one.
Northwestern's Melannie Daley committed to Virginia Tech over Vanderbilt in the SEC. Last season, for the Wildcats, Daley averaged 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists a game, which was a slight drop off from her numbers the previous season. Her addition gives Duffy 12 players under scholarship, with three remaining.
Football adds transfer long-snapper from Big 12 school
The commitments have been coming in quickly in the last week for Hokies’ football coach Brent Pry, and the latest is a long-snapper from Iowa State. Drew Doyle committed to Virginia Tech, and the 6-foot-1, 255-pounder is a redshirt freshman and will have four years of eligibility remaining. After graduating from high school in 2019, he joined the U.S. Navy for four years before turning to college football. He is the seventh-ranked long-snapper by Rubio Long Snapping.
Former Virginia Tech guard suffers devastating injury
When former Virginia Tech women’s basketball guard Georgia Amoore left Blacksburg for Kentucky following the 2023-24 season, it wasn’t a surprise that she followed former coach Kenny Brooks to Kentucky for her final season. She was recently drafted by the Washington Mystics in the WNBA Draft.
It was announced that Amoore suffered an ACL injury, which is brutal news with the start of the season around the corner. Here’s hoping she makes a quick recovery, as she is the second former Hokies’ star to suffer an ACL injury after Elizabeth Kitley went down in March of 2024. Kitley is expected to play for the Las Vegas Aces this season to make her WNBA debut.
