We are in the first week of February, and that means one thing and one thing only, spring sports are around the corner, winter sports are heating up and the football offseason is in full swing. That’s where we’ll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.

Brent Pry says transfer proceed himself out of Blacksburg

We are in a strange time in college sports with NIL and each school having different amounts of resources. That is the case for Virginia Tech and over the last two months, several Hokies’ have entered the transfer portal for 2025. According to head coach Brent Pry, one player requested more money than he was willing to shell out.

According to Andy Bitter of TechSideline, Pry had some decisions to make regarding his roster with one player he wanted to keep around asking for $400,000, something he didn’t do.

“We’re going to do what’s in the best interest of our program," Pry said.

This is a big season for Pry in terms of his future in Blacksburg, but he also will do what is in the best interest of the program. We may never know who that player was, but you can bet that quarterback Kyron Drones got a good deal to return in 2025.

Softball begins the season in South Carolina

It’s hard to believe, but the Hokies softball season begins on Friday in Mount Pleasant, S.C. and they will play two games on Friday and Saturday and a single game on Sunday.

On Friday, Tech will play Fordham at 10 a.m. and North Dakota State at 12:30. On Saturday, they will play North Dakota State again at 12:30 and then take the field at 5:30 against the College of Charleston. On Sunday, they will wrap up the weekend against the College of Charleston at 1 p.m.

Wrestling heads out West for ACC match
