When four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque de-committed from Michigan last December after Sherrone Moore was let go, newly hired Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin and quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien got right in the mix for the Massachusetts native.
His second recruitment took longer than some would like, but in the spring, Bourque committed to the Hokies over Penn State and Georgia. 247Sports recently ranked the top recruit in each state in the Class of 2027, and Bourque, who was the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year Award winner, was Massachusetts' top recruit. He beat out Penn State three-star quarterback commit Will Wood.

Bourque is primed for a big senior season at Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass.
Virginia Tech gets an interesting prediction for a bowl game
Last week we highlighted bowl predictions for Virginia Tech for the upcoming season from ESPN and CBS Sports. They had the Hokies matched up in some interesting games in Franklin's first season in Blacksburg. Brett McMurphy of On3 released his first bowl projections of the season, and he has Virginia Tech playing Iowa in the Pinstripe Bowl the day after Christmas at Yankee Stadium.
That would pit Franklin against another Big Ten team, as the Hokies are already playing Maryland this season in Week 3 in a non-conference game on the road. If the Pinstripe Bowl were the destination for Virginia Tech and they went bowling around the holidays, depending on who opted out and who didn't, it would be the second straight year for the Penn State transfers to play in the Bronx.
Virginia Tech sells out its home opener
It has been announced that Virginia Tech's home opener at Lane Stadium on Sept. 5 against VMI is officially sold out. The game will kick off at 7:30, and it really shouldn't be surprising that it is sold out. Heck, Virginia Tech was drawing last year after Bent Pry was fired as head coach. It would be shocking if any Virginia Tech home games were not sold out this year or anytime during Franklin's tenure.
Virginia Tech didn't have to go to Costco or bribe students with deals to sell out the game, or just to get fans to go to the game. Funny how things work sometimes.
