On Saturday, the Virginia Tech football team will head to Chestnut Hill, just outside of Boston, to open ACC play against Boston College. When the Hokies arrive in Massachusetts, they are going to be greeted by Mother Nature and her wrath.
The forecast for this weekend in the Northeast is downright ugly. A lot of rain and the potential for hurricane-force winds and wind gusts. If that ends up being the case, then that will likely cause both coaches, James Franklin and Bill O'Brien, to change their game plans. Franklin said at his weekly press conference earlier this week that they have prepared for wet weather before.
"We prepare for wet ball every week," Franklin said. "Typically, when it rains, offensive guys been out in the rain to make sure we get that wet ball work. We'll work hard at it all week long either way, like we always do, and prepare for it.''
Preparing for the rain is one thing, but to prepare for the potential winds with a quarterback in Ethan Grunkemeyer, who loves to throw the ball, is another thing. This is setting up to be an ugly game in terms of conditions for both teams.
Jaden Keller lands on Jets practice squad
Former Virginia Tech linebacker Jaden Keller spent training camp with the New York Jets and had 10 tackles, five solo, in New York's preseason games before being assigned to the practice squad on Aug. 31. He was released on Sept. 15, but on Tuesday, he was re-signed to the practice squad after the Jets' overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at home.

- The Virginia Tech men's soccer team improved to 5-2-1 with a 3-0 win over Queens at Thompson Field on Tuesday night. The Hokies got goals from Noe Uwimana, Mehdi Kettani, and Luke Hamel. Tech will host undefeated and third-ranked SMU on Sunday afternoon.
- The Hokies women's soccer team will return to the pitch on Sunday night at North Carolina State in their third straight ACC road game to begin the conference slate. At 6-1-3 overall and 2-0-0 in the ACC, Virginia Tech has road wins at Pittsburgh and Syracuse to open conference play.
- Virginia Tech's volleyball team went 3-6 in non-conference play, which was disappointing. They begin ACC play this weekend with a pair of road games, at Georgia Tech on Friday night and then at Clemson on Sunday afternoon.
