As soon as the Transfer Portal opened back in January, first-year Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin went right to work turning over the Hokies roster. To nobody's surprise, when he hit the portal, he went after some players who were going to come in and make a big impact in Blacksburg right away.
One player that he got a commitment from is Troy transfer Jaquez White. The speedy cornerback was one of the top defenders in the Sun Belt last season and had a really good spring practice. However, during the spring game, he suffered an injury that scared a lot of fans. He revealed on his X account that he was ok and he has been present for camp.
PFF recently dropped the top returning graded ACC cornerbacks for the upcoming season, and White came in at the top spot. Granted, it wasn't done in Blacksburg, but it still proves how good a cornerback the Hokies got in the portal. He will be a huge cover corner for Brent Pry's defense and one of the top cover corners in the ACC.
Virginia Tech over/under win total remains 6.5
One thing that has been consistent lately is the over/under win total for Virginia Tech in James Franklin's first season in Blacksburg. It opened at 6.5 at FanDuel, and it remains there less than two weeks before the season begins. What will it end up being? That's a great question, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them go over it by a win or two, but it wouldn't be surprising to see it go under at six. What would be surprising is to see it below six, and the Hokies don't become bowl-eligible.

- After opening the season with a 1-0 loss at Ohio State last Thursday night, the Hokies men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Howard at Thompson Field on Sunday, with six different goal scorers. Jaden Chan Tack tallied two goals for Virginia Tech, which got one each from Yanis Belatrache, Noe Uwimana, Chase Vazquez, Mehdi Kettani, and Dagur Traustaon. - After beginning the season with two wins, the Hokies women's soccer team settled for a 2-2 non-conference tie with Maryland on Sunday night at Thompson Field three days after tying Liberty, 2-2. Virginia Tech took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals from Peyton May in the 29th minute and Riley Karpinski in the 38th minute. However, the Terrapins rallied with two goals in the second half in the 65th and 71st minutes to earn the tie. The Hokies will travel to William & Mary on Thursday for another non-conference match.
