Over the last couple of seasons, the Virginia Tech baseball team has been falling apart late in the season when it looked like they were bound for the NCAA Tournament. The last two springs have seen John Szefc's crew fade from the tournament bubble.
Could this year be different?
Maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but after winning a third straight ACC series this past weekend against the California Golden Bears, they are squarely on the bubble. According to the latest bracketology from D1 Baseball, they have the Hokies in the field as the last team.
Again, before we get ahead of ourselves, there is still a lot of baseball left with non-conference games this week against Liberty and two with UNC-Greensboro. They will host Clemson in two weeks in the final ACC regular-season series before the ACC Tournament at the end of the month.
Wrestling program gets hefty donation
Virginia Tech wrestling coach Tony Robie announced a $1 million donation, the largest in program history. Included in the donation is a matching component of $1 million by May of 2027. Robie took over the Hokies program in 2017, and in that time, Virginia Tech has captured four ACC regular season titles and they have won four ACC Tournaments. They qualified 10 wrestlers for the NCAA Tournament, where they finished 11th in Cleveland.

- The ACC softball tournament gets underway on Wednesday in Charlottesville. Virginia Tech is the third seed in the tournament and draws a bye on the first day. They will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of Wednesday's game, Virginia and Pittsburgh.
- Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney took a shot at Notre Dame football. The Tigers' coach said that "'Notre Dame makes its own rules, prints its own money.'' He also went on to say during the 'Always College Football' webcast with Greg McElroy that Clemson is "punching above its weight class and wins despite a lack of resources.'' Sounds like someone is feeling the pressure in South Carolina.
