Recruiting is booming for Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy when it comes to the Class of 2027. Beginning her third season at the helm of the Hokies, Duffy is building a very good recruiting class. It might get even better in the not too distant future.
Five-star wing Qandace Samuels is down to four schools, according to Dushawn London of 247Sports. Those four schools are Virginia Tech, LSU, Texas, and Rutgers. The 6-foot-2 Samuels plays at Bishop McNamara in Maryland. According to 247Sports director of scouting, Brendon Clay, he had the following scouting report on Samuels,
"Samuels is blossoming into one of the country’s premier wing threats. She has developed into a consistent 3-point shooter, whether her feet are set or she's shooting off the bounce, reading and then pulling. In that regard, Samuels can score as well as any wing in the class right now. She has the size to play through contact around the rim,'' Clay wrote.
Duffy and the Hokies have their work cut out for them in Samuels' recruitment, with Texas and LSU in the mix. The fact that Duffy made the Final 4 for Samuels is a good sign, even if she doesn't land her. Duffy already has four Top 100 recruits in the Class of 2027 committed.
Women's basketball latest bracketology has familiar opponent
It's hard to believe, but the college basketball season begins on Monday night, and Duffy and the Hokies will host North Carolina Central at Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech will be looking for a second straight NCAA Tournament berth under Duffy. On Tuesday, Charlie Creme of ESPN released his latest bracketology ahead of the upcoming season, and he had the Hokies facing a team that bounced them last season from the dance, Oregon.
Creme has the Hokies as a No. 8 seed in Region 1, Philadelphia, with South Carolina being the top seed. Last season, the Ducks bounced Virginia Tech in Austin, Texas, in the 8-9 game before Texas sent Oregon packing for the season.
